The story takes place in the 1940s (no specific year yet), in an underground city in (probably) England. The city was built by the shadow people, so they don't have to hide in the human world. Many shadows and non-humans came to the city from different countries, mostly around Europe.
detective marlon clarkson:

a shadow detective that gets into trouble with some not so great people. He’s very professional and doesn’t joke around unless he’s had a few drinks. He was shot in the heart one time so his heart has been replaced with a mechanical heart that is prone to overheating. he is also allergic to cats.
i got the idea for this while listening to 'treat me mean, i need the reputation' by xploding plastix, that is also why it's his theme. he's some kind of a shadow demon person creature detective but in a bad cop way cos he gets in trouble with some shady ppl or something. also me is funny and copying jack and the cuckoo clock heart but idc, also the heart design is very wip cos i dodn't have any good ideas on how to do it properly.

he's a doctor in the north side of the underground city. he's pretty quiet and introverted, but he loves to help people. he's a very nice, polite, soft-spoken guy. he wears a mask because he thinks people don't like his face. he's pretty short, but he doesn't really care. he's from germany.

normally very calm and quiet and pretty friendly, but he has a bit of a... different side when he's not around people. not a lot is known about jack, even his closest friends know very little of his actual self and where he came from. he also has a pet can named osiris.

he asked a magician to change his face, but got turned into a cat instead. he's accepted his fate and goes by osiris instead of his real name.
